I usually try to write every day. After all, that's what writers do, right? But with the wacko weather recently, going from 0 to 55 degrees from one day to the next, all I've wanted to do was curl up on the couch with hot cocoa and a good book myself. My kids, of course, are perfectly happy to be a bit lazy, too. And they love the recent addiction to hot cocoa.
I am not a mom who advocates TV, but I think movies are not the worst thing to watch when it's pouring rain outside. Right now, my kids' favorite is Madagascar (definitely not MY favorite). My 2-year-old runs around the house singing, "I like to move it, move it" and shaking her booty. I would be mortified if someone other than family actually saw her (...or me dancing and singing along, but that's another story). When I get caught up in my writing, I forget how easy it is to overlook the simple and fun things. I'll play with my kids, but my mind will be on what's going to happen in the next scene of the book. Or I'll be worrying about a contest deadline and editing the short story I need to send out. I'm there, but I feel that I'm not a hundred percent present. It's nice to take a break. I'll get back to writing later. After all, I have a half-finished manuscript waiting and about six shorts that I need to send out. They'll still be waiting for me in the morning. For now, though, I'm going to pick up my daughter and shake my booty. Ahem, I mean watch her shake her booty. And enjoy this moment right here.
