I'll be talking about my Author Versus AI challenge and what led me to take up the pen. (And why I might take up the pen AGAIN in the near future.)

It aired live on the 6 o'clock news on Wednesday. Of course, normally if you make the 6 o'clock news, it's not for anything good - but this time, it was!

Holy moly, guys. I've just been shortlisted for The Alpine Fellowship!

Apparently there were over 2,500 entries, and my story made the top 60. I'm thrilled to be in such good company as my fellow Western Canadian authors Jenna Butler and Paulo da Costa, among many other wonderful writers from around the world. Go, Canada!!!

The final results will be revealed later this year, so until then, I'm going to be sitting over here with all my fingers and toes crossed.

I'm thrilled to announce that my short story "Divided" received honorable mention in the 12th Annual Imagine Little Tokyo Short Story Contest. The story will be published in the Discover Nikkei this upcoming week on Thursday, June 12th, so stay tuned!

Today (June 7th) at 3 p.m. PST, there will be an awards ceremony for all the winners, and Ji-young Yoo, Rosie Narasaki, and Toshiji Takeshima will provide dramatic readings of the winning short stories in the English Adult, Youth, and Japanese categories. It's free to attend online or in person, and you can RSVP HERE.

I'll be there online, and I look forward to hearing all the wonderful stories that were a part of the contest. Congrats to all the fabulous writers!

I don't know about you, but the year has been flying by! I've been on several podcasts, placed in several writing awards, and edited several of my Author Versus AI books from last year.

While I'm planning on updating my website and writing a blog post soon about all that's been going on behind the scenes, I'm just here for a quick stop to mention that tomorrow (May 31st), I'll be on She Blurbs podcast with the fabulous Brook Wright at noon EST. I'm a member of a wonderful group of writers called Stroll of Poets, and every few weeks they have a reading with several featured poets. This Monday the 4th (tomorrow), I'll be one of those poets! Along with the awesome wordsmiths David Fraser, Neil Meili, and Daniel Poitras.

​I'm so excited for a couple of recent publications that have come out. First off, that's me up above holding the new copy of Grain Magazine, which has my poem "In another line of time" published in it!

Also, today my poem "Lost" is appearing in Write City Ezine, a great publication out of Chicago. Free to read online!

In upcoming news, in just a couple of weeks I'll be at the When Words Collide literary conference in Calgary. I'll be speaking at a couple of panels, doing an autographing session, and also bopping around the conference. If you'll be attending too, please drop me a line - always happy to meet new writers!

And I never announced the BIG news I teased earlier - my latest novella Dual, written last year for the 3-Day Novel Contest, made the longlist! I'm very excited to be in such great company, especially for a contest that normally attracts 500-600 writers every year. I'm thrilled to be a part of it and have my work to be esteemed so highly by the judges, especially since this was my first year entering. Very exciting!

All in all, it's been an eventful couple months. Sorry about the sporadic postings, but my Author Versus AI project is taking up most of my time these days. I'll be back shortly, probably with a report from the convention in August. Until then, hope you're having a great summer!
