First and foremost, schizophrenia to my friend was about perception rather than about reality. What she perceived was, to her, completely real, even if her perceptions didn't match other people's perceptions. And it made me think that each of us perceive the same events slightly differently, so we all have alternate realities, even if we don't suffer from mental illness. The only difference may be - is there only one reality or are there as many realities as perceptions? This made me want to tell a story that blurred the lines between the two - that highlighted success and failure at the same time - that showed to the reader that extremes don't have to be contradictions. It depends on the perception of the reader as much as the perception of the storyteller.
I hope you enjoy reading the story as much as I enjoyed writing it. :)
